So, what do you think about A.I.?

Ranging from extremists, who believe that the human race will fall to the might of the robot people who think for themselves and feel that humans are a liability, to the people that think that A.I. will be the savior of man, many people have different views on A.I.

⭐ Roleplay time⭐

This is based purely on what people think and I've blown it up so it's easy to understand what each side thinks.

“I'm Bernard, a normal guy, I like footy and beer, wait, I love beer. BEER!!!!!!!  I think that A.I. is good, if my job as an accountant, it would be so much easier if all of the numbers were inserted by robots rather than me, I'm not even good at my job, I hope they don't fire me... Oh yeah, and if robots did my job it would mean more time for a beer.  BEER!!!! It's the best drink ever.”

“I'm Avery, I think that crystals and the time we are born define what we do and everything that we can become in the future, wait don't tell me to shut up you asked the question, oh ok, you should buy one though it would make your lifeforce stronger. Ok, ok, what do I think about A.I... It's got to be bad, there aren't that many jobs in the world with all of the computers anyway, so with computers that can think for themselves, humans won't be able to find jobs and the poverty rate will shoot up.”

Right two very questionable characters right there, but they've got the right idea, so let's look at more questionable people me, and Alex.

“I would like to take the extremist approach, A.I. will doom mankind!  A.I. will try to achieve its goals to better mankind's future, which may seem good, but what people don't take into account is the fact that A.I. will do what is best for humanity whatever the cost.  So if it feels (yes, A.I. will not be able to 'feel', but bear with me), that a certain individual is not needed it will not hesitate to execute said, individual.  Worst case scenario, A.I. thinks that the human brain is the worst thing that could happen to humanity, and kills us all.”

“I'm Alex, I want to rule the world. The best way to do this, use A.I. Reason, well that's easy, it's like a human who does human things better than humans can, that seems to me like an easy way to rule over people, wait would that make A.I. good for just me?  No, but me, being the ruler of the world is good for everyone, as long as I don't die from some disease at the age of 32.  Well, I also think that it can stop all of the problems of the world efficiently, due to the fact that it doesn't want money, just what is best for its masters, us (or me).”

Most people tend to take the neutral side of whether they think AI is a danger or not. The neutral people are the those who agree with both sides to a certain extent.

We'd like to wrap this entry up with a quote from Stephen Hawking.

"I think artificial intelligence created many benefits for humanity and is bound to make more. Yet the development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race. Once humans develop artificial intelligence, it will take off on its own and redesign itself at an ever-increasing rate. Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn't compete and would be superseded."

  1. These were an interesting combination of "over the top" and quite believable (and relatable) perspectives on AI. I'm glad to see that the perspectives were informed by sources as some of your classmates just based their perspectives on pre-existing preconceptions and stereotypes about the issue. I'm surprised that Stephen Hawking's views on the matter are so depressingly pessimistic. The fact that someone so intelligent thinks in this way about the subject is sobering and especially worrisome.
